South Phila Friends

We had an impromptu visit from our friends the Sovanns and friend Melissa from South Philadelphia over the Holidays. We were once their Family Home Evening parents. A calling Nathan and I had for 2 years in our little branch. We loved it!! There were 12 of them at the time, now there are 14!

From left is Sarueth Sovann, 12; Sophanny Sovann, 14; Soueth (Soofy) Sovann, 20; Desmond Jones, 13mos.; and Melissa, 20.

Soofy is attending BYU and will be the first in her family to graduate from college. We took them to Jackson Heights, Queens to a South Asian neighborhood for some Indian food (they're actually Cambodian, Melissa is Chinese) which they hated (snobs!) and into some sari and Bollywood film and music stores, which they liked. Vanessa was with us too (not pictured here) and she finally found a Bollywood film she'd seen on tv 3years ago and has been looking for ever since. Funny girl.

Even considering the many babies they have had and are still having in their home, they wanted to take Desi back with them. They were so sweet and cute with him. Taking over the stroller and carrying it up the subway stairs, etc. Sophanny esp. is so gentle and loving, she was nurturing him so sweetly. Nate and I sure love them and hope they'll be apart our lives forever!
